Colombo Literary Festival to Mark a New Era in Sri Lanka's Cultural Revival

The country of Sri Lanka is preparing itself for celebrating its literature and ideas with the opening of the first ever Colombo Literary Festival in the country which will be a six-day festival.

Set to be held from July 24th to July 29th in 2026 at Arcade Independence Square, Colombo, the festival will see participation of readers, writers, filmmakers, musicians, artists, and many more. Not merely a festival for literature, but the festival tries to make sure that the stories reach all the different languages and cultures through the means of storytelling.

The festival focuses equally on Sinhala, Tamil, and English literature because Sri Lanka boasts a diverse range of literary culture which includes the three languages. Described by the organizers as an open invitation to one and all, whether it is an experienced reader, writer, a student or someone who wants to explore his/her love for literature.

An interesting program of conversations with great authors, discussions, book launch programs, workshops, master classes, movies and music programs awaits visitors. The festival also aims to promote discussions among the genres of literature, cinema, art and culture.

Some of the notable international guests to be present at the literary festival include Shashi Tharoor, along with other distinguished Sri Lankan and foreign authors. Moreover, there will be a selection of films screening at the literary festival as well as interactive sessions for people of all age groups and literature-related community events.

According to the organizers of the event, Colombo Literary Festival ushers in a new tradition of culture in Sri Lanka where storytelling will act as the means to connect, create, and understand. In addition to contributing towards Sri Lanka's growing cultural scene, the Colombo Literary Festival will help establish the capital city of Colombo as an important literary destination on the world map.

With the continuous efforts to rebuild and redefine their cultural identity, Colombo Literary Festival will become an important aspect of their culture.
